The following presentation was inspired by a pamphlet
on broiler chickens by Compassion in World Farming.
About cage size: United Egg Producers, the industry trade group
representing more than 85 percent of U.S. egg producers, allows
61 square inches
of cage space per White Leghorn layer hen.
About our model: Battery hens are kept underweight and usually lose
most of their feathers. Omega, a White Leghorn layer hen rescued
from the Ohio Buckeye Egg Farm in 2000, is pictured here in good
health
with full plumage. She currently resides at Woodstock Farm Animal
Sanctuary.
